Fabien
Novarino was born in 1963 in Chambéry and spent his childhood at the foot of
the Alps. From a very young age, he dedicated his free time to drawing,
painting, and scale modeling.
His literary studies brought him to Paris, where he frequently visited museums
and exhibitions at the Grand Palais—the very venue where he would exhibit his
own work about ten years later. Novarino pursued a commercial career until the
age of 27, when he decided to commit himself entirely to art.
His first oil paintings, created in 1990, were exhibited at the
Salon des
Indépendants
and the
Salon d’Automne
at the Grand Palais in Paris.
The first galleries to take an interest in his painting quickly attracted a
following of collectors, who recognized him as an heir to the great names of
the School of Provence. His large-scale canvases depict the landscapes of the
Provençal hinterland, small fishing ports, sheer cliffs, and market scenes, all
painted with a palette knife and great expressive energy.
Since 2010,
Fabien has integrated photography into his research, evolving his pictorial
work toward a more contemporary language. Starting from personal or archival
shots, he creates original graphic works inspired by the
Neo-Pop
style—considered the natural successor to the Pop Art movement of the 1950s.
Through a refined combination of collage, drawing, and stenciling, his works
draw inspiration from cinema icons, modern urbanism, and comic book imagery.
His art is decisively contemporary.
Convinced that an artist must constantly grow and evolve, Novarino
unhesitatingly experiments with new techniques and cutting-edge tools. His
celebrated
Glacial Glam Girls
represent the most accomplished
synthesis of his bold digital experimentation. In these works, the artist
masterfully blends fine-art photography—meticulously detailing hyper-realistic
elements like the reflections in sunglass lenses—with sophisticated digital art
techniques and manual finishing touches. This layering of technology and
artisanal gesture grants his feminine icons a magnetic aura and a unique
material depth.
