"Homo Faber" in Venice - The biggest cultural event dedicated to craftmanship

From 1 to 30 September 2024 , the city will host “ Homo Faber ”, the largest cultural event related to craftsmanship whose main purpose is to celebrate master craftsmen from all over the world.
The Giorgio Cini Foundation , in partnership with the Fondazione Cologni dei Maestri and the Michelangelo Foundation , present this year the third edition, whose theme, " The journey of life ", aims to explore the entire path of human life by dividing it into 10 stages.

Movie director Luca Guadagno , together with the architect Nicolò Rosmarini , curated the theme “ The Journey of Life ”, born from the idea of Hanneli Rupert , who is the vice president of the Michelangelo Foundation.
The installation wants to make us live, through the works created by master craftsmen, all that core memories that are in our minds and hearts: childhood games, first loves, travels, memories of youth, growth and death. The 10 stages are indeed named: Birth, Childhood, Celebration, Inheritance, Love, Journeys, Nature, Dreams, Dialogues and Afterlife .

Thanks to the presence of numerous international artisans and more than 800 works presented in the evocative headquarters of the Giorgio Cini Foundation, on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, it will be possible to embark on a personal journey through 10 themes that illustrate with curiosity and delicacy the journey of our life.
The aim of " Homo Faber " is not only to make us experience a journey through the memory of the heart, but also to celebrate the mastery of craftsmanship - a very precious “arte minore” - that must be constantly preserved and enhanced.
" Homo Faber " is also a unique opportunity to see Venice with different eyes: after leaving the island of San Giorgio, it will be possible to appreciate venetian craftsmanship thanks to more than 70 ateliers and small shops that will open their doors giving the opportunity, through workshops and meetings, to learn the history and evolution of these crafts.
In fact, by checking the website https://www.homofaber.com/en/guide , it is possible to find out which shops (and when) are participating in the initiative to have the opportunity to participate in the many activities offered. For example: seeing how master glassmakers work glass, how gemmologists choose stones for a ring, or even how to take measurements to make a perfect tailored suit.

This event is aimed at celebrating the professions of art and aims to enhance high craftsmanship by choosing Venice as its location, a city that has traditionally promoted minor and major arts, just to mention art and cinema with events such as the Biennale, now in its 60th edition, and the Film Festival, this year in its 81st edition.
" Homo Faber " is therefore placed in a context of research and promotion events with an international scope. This is the same spirit of Sist'Art Gallery which, thanks to the internationality of the city and the artists represented, offers contemporary and research works with solid roots given by the knowledge of the history of art and its market.
