John Morris, born in Dublin in 1958, is a self-taught Irish painter celebrated for his radiant landscapes and evocative depictions of life along the Irish coast. Though he began painting later in life, in the late 1990s, he quickly developed a distinctive artistic voice, drawing inspiration from the ever-changing light and atmosphere of Ireland’s western seaboard.
Working primarily en plein air, Morris embraces the challenges of painting outdoors to faithfully capture the subtleties of natural light and fleeting moments of human presence by the sea. His compositions often feature wide, windswept beaches, with figures bathed in sunlight, evoking a sense of tranquility, nostalgia, and connection to place.
Morris is especially drawn to locations such as Inch Beach and Ballybunion, where the interplay of sky, sea, and sand offers endless inspiration. His use of vibrant colors, dynamic brushwork, and attention to mood and light has earned him recognition among collectors and galleries alike.
Today, his work is exhibited in several prominent Irish galleries and forms part of numerous private collections both in Ireland and internationally. John Morris continues to live and paint in Ireland, guided by his passion for capturing the beauty of everyday coastal life
